Course objectives (competencies): Upon completion of the teaching and placement of this subject, students should be able to:

  • Adopt the analytical framework of the labor economics and benchmarks as a discipline, individual approaches and practical economic and social implications;
  • Understand labor supply determinants, individual, sector and aggregate;
  • Pay attention to the determinations of labor, population and time allocation;
  • Define the concepts of investing in human capital;
  • Understand the determinants of short-term labor requirements in different market structures (state of advantage);
  • Master the dominant concepts of the functioning of the labor market-
  • Competitive structures, balancing.
  • Understand the implications of trade union organization on the labor market and efficiency;
  • Understand the aggregate aspects of demand, wages and inflation;
  • Understand the principles of labor market regulation, the state, legislation and regulation;
  • Master the dominant theoretical approaches in explaining unemployment.
  • Master the conceptual frameworks of individual approaches and policies of employment and policies for solving the problem of unemployment; the implications of individual policies in the short and long term;
  • Analyze the current situation on the labor market in the Republic of Macedonia 
Course content: The labor economics is an area that is becoming a key component of the core of the analytical economy. Labor efficiency as a resource in a broader sense directly determines the productivity and competitiveness of individual industries or national economies in international markets. On the other hand, unemployment is becoming one of the central economic and social problems of sophisticated economies.
