Course objectives (competences):

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of international trade regulation, especially the meaning of the Vienna Convention for international sales of goods;
  • Understand the compatibility of the domestic trade law with the international trade law;
  • Analyze the possible disputes and misunderstandings when member-countries apply regulations and policies that are not compatible with the rules and regulations of the World Trade Organization. 
Course content:

Types of sources of international trade regulation. Regulating international sales of goods. Vienna Convention for international sales of goods. Sales contract. Case studies: WTO. Customs, quotas and other market access barriers. Subsidies and countervailing duties. Antidumping. Safeguards. Technical barriers to trade. Sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures. Agriculture. Trade in services.  Intellectual property. Regionalism. Dispute Settlement Mechanism.
