Course objectives (competences): 

The course aims to give the students a solid knowledge of EU law and regulation. The course focuses on the sources of EU law, EU institutions, supremacy, direct application of European law, direct effects, principles of European law, four (economic) freedoms, the regulation of competition in the European Union, the harmonization and unification of intellectual property and its protection. At the same time, the course aims to familiarise the students with the efforts of the Republic of North Macedonia in the process of approximation to European law and legislation as our permanent commitment and perspective.

 
Course content Introduction; Historical development; development of European law and European legal systems; Sources of EU law; General principles of EU law; EU institutions; Common market: free movement of goods, free movement of people, freedom to provide services and free movement of capital; Exceptions of the Four Economic Freedoms; Common principles, discrimination and market access; Regulation of free competition and state aid and the common market; Harmonization and unification of EU intellectual property rights and their protection; Principles of European contract law; The process of harmonization / approximation of the legislation of the Republic of North Macedonia with the EU law.
