Course objectives (competences):

After completing the course, the students should be able to:

  1. Understand the functioning of the world economy;
  2. Understand the interconnectivity and interdependence of international trade, technological innovations, and business strategies of the multinational companies;
  3. Understand the positive and negative aspects of the globalization process.
Course content:

Contemporary outlook of the international market; (dis-) balance of the distribution of economic power of the global players in the world economy; the changing positioning of developing and transition countries in the global economy; world economic interdependence – global trends, pros and cons of globalization – characteristics, reasons, consequences; effects of the globalization process on the national autonomy; greater convergence or greater divergence through globalization; regionalism vs globalization; old and new regionalism – theoretical aspects and perspectives;  EU and globalization, national autonomy and competitiveness of the economies vs economic integration.
