Course objectives (competences):

Upon completion of this learning program, the students should be able:

  • To understand the microeconomic fundamentals of banking;
  • To be familiar with the systems, principles and problems associated with insurance of deposits;
  • To analyze the performances of banks in different market models;
  • To  calculate the capital required to cover the risks in accordance with the Basel Regulation
  • To analyze the methods of dealing with banking crises;
Course content: 

1. Banks as financial institutions,

2. The theory of banking corporations,

3. Credit rationing,

4. Foreign capital in the banking sector,

5. Theory of Bank Regulation,

6. Basel 3 – regulation of capital and liquidity,

7. Deposit Insurance Theory,

8. Deposit insurance systems,

9. Systemic crises,

10. Macro prudential regulation.
