Course objectives (competences):

After completing this course, students should be capable to:

  • Understand the institutional framework and structure of the European Monetary System and its economic and financial characteristics
  • Understand the framework and conduct of the monetary policy of the European Central Bank (ECB)
  • Recognizing the problems of tax harmonization and competition in EMU
  • Analyze the trends in EU public finances
  • Understand the structure and characteristics of tax systems in EU countries

  • Theoretical aspects of creating a monetary union
  • The institutional framework of the single monetary policy
  • Economic and financial structure of the euro area
  • ECB monetary policy
  • Trends in public finance in Europe
  • National fiscal policy in EMU countries
