DEGREE OF EDUCATION

The study program Organizational Sciences and Management organized by the Faculty of Economics – Skopje, Institute of Economics – Skopje and the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research at the Ss. Cyril and Methodious University in Skopje, is from the third cycle, doctoral studies, or level VIII according to the National Framework for Higher Education Qualifications, i.e., level 8 according to the European Framework for Higher Education Qualifications.

PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDY PROGRAM

The expansive development of the needs of the most modern knowledge in the field of Organizational Sciences and Management in the Republic of North Macedonia is especially emphasized in the period from the 90s of the XX century, i.e., it coincides with the period of ownership transformation of the social and state capital, as well as the imperative of acquiring specialized knowledge from different areas of management. From this period, the need to purchase generic and specific knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies increased the importance of all levels of study related to Organizational Sciences and Management, i.e., on the first, second, and third cycle of their study.

The permanent turbulence of the business conditions, especially emphasized from the mid-90s of the XX century, today imposes the need to constitute a third cycle of studies in the field of Organizational Sciences and Management, which will enable the acquisition of modern theoretical and practical knowledge from numerous management disciplines, as well as to train future doctors of economics for practical application of the acquired managerial experiences in solving everyday management problems.

The Faculty of Economics – Skopje, the Institute of Economics, and the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research at the Ss. Cyril and Methodious University in Skopje have continuously monitored, developed, and applied the latest achievements in the field of Organizational Sciences and Management, from a theoretical, research-application and development aspect.

The purposed study program from the third cycle of studies in the field of Organizational Sciences and Management responds to the manifested complex and dynamic changes in the Republic of North Macedonia’s business environment. In the use of modern management techniques, procedures, and methods, North Macedonia in conditions of increasingly intensive acceptance of international management standards of conduct and transparency in changing institutional regulation.

This study program combines modern scientific knowledge from management, entrepreneurship, management information systems, change management, human resource management, financial management, strategic management, and other business sciences, which increases the effectiveness and efficiency of third-cycle studies. After all, modern organizations today have a simultaneous need for delegation, decentralization, functionally integrated organizational units, complementary teams, interactive relationships with human resources, both horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, integrating long-term organizational goals with deep incentives for the most effective behavior of subordinates. Their study is fully realized within this study program from the third cycle of studies.

Given that one of the conditions for acquiring a managerial position in a severe number of domestic and international companies is the knowledge and experience of Organizational Sciences and Management, the focus of candidates for enrollment in this study program is quite evident, both from the private, public, and state sector. Additionally, the study program’s target group of the third cycle of studies are the candidates who want to be trained to perform scientific research and educational work at universities and scientific institutions in North Macedonia.

The in-depth study of the subject in Organizational Sciences and Management is a pillar in constructing capable, motivated, entrepreneurial, and internationally integrated North Macedonian organizations. This material is prelevant, analyzed, and used at many universities worldwide, thus gaining its popularity and applicative orientation. In the modern economic thought in the field of Organizational Sciences and Management are studied the most complex, but also the most critical contemporary problems of all forms of organizations, regardless of their activity, size, the shape of the organization, ownership structure, management information systems, management approach with the change, leadership style and countless others. The scientific and applied interest in Organizational Sciences and Management is best reflected through many scientific, professional, and popular journals in this field, which each year create a growing base of theoretical and applied management knowledge, especially their use in an appropriate North Macedonian trade company. The integration of domestic with the most modern international expertise in this field, this study program will provide by accessing and using the knowledge of the most renowned European and American journals through databases JSTORE, EBSCO, EMERALD, and other relevant sources of printed information in the field of Organizational Sciences and Management. This approach provides comparability of the domestic’s modernity with the most modern knowledge, skills, experiences, and abilities, from the most renowned European and world universities where this economic field is studied.

YEARS AND SEMESTERS DURING THE STUDY PROGRAM

The study program of the third cycle of studies in Organizational Sciences and Management is organized as a three-year program consisting of six semesters, which gives it a total of 180 credits.

ECTS CREDITS WITH WHICH THE STUDENT GETS

Upon completing the three-year university, third cycle doctoral studies, study program Organizational Sciences and Management, the student acquires 180 ECTS credits.

MANNER OF FINANCING

Doctoral studies are realized with the self-financing of the candidates. Candidates’ self-financing sources can be supported by scholarships, company funds, and international institutions through other funds and grants.

The amount, the method of payment, as well as all other conditions are regulated by the Rulebook on the Conditions, criteria, and rules for enrollment and study of the third cycle of studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje („University Gazette“ no. 245/2013), Rulebook for determining the number of study costs for the third cycle of doctoral studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje and their distribution („University Gazette“ no. 245/2013), as well as with the acts of the Faculty of Economics, the Institute of Economics and the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research in Skopje.

ENROLLMENT CONDITIONS

Students’ enrollment in the third cycle of studies in the study program in Organizational Sciences and Management will be conducted based on a Competition announced by the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. The procedure for adopting and announcing the Competition is determined by the law and the Rulebook on the Conditions, criteria, and rules for enrollment and study of the third cycle of studies in Organizational Sciences and Management – Doctoral Studies Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. The Competition’s title is Competition for students’ enrollment in the third cycle of studies – Doctoral studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (starting now: Competition).

The Competition is announced at least five months before the beginning of the school year. The Competition states:

  • The study program;
  • The number of students;
  • Conditions and criteria for enrollment;
  • The amount of tuition and other fees;
  • Deadlines;
  • Other elements of importance for the Competition;
  • Other elements determined by law.

ENROLLMENT CRITERIA

The right to enroll in doctoral studies have persons who have completed appropriate study programs and meet the following essential criteria:

  • Completed the second cycle of studies harmonized in the European Credit Transfer System; in the following text: ECTS);
  • Completed study programs of postgraduate studies before the introduction of ECTS, which are recognized 60 credits in the field of training for research and education;
  • Acquired professional training according to study programs for regulated professions, with at least 300 ECTS credits;
  • Achieved average success in all subjects from the previous higher education, of at least 8,00;
  • Knowledge of one of the world languages. Proof of knowledge of a world language is a Certificate issued by the Faculty of Philology „Blaze Koneski“ or an international certificate or diploma for previously acquired education in the appropriate world language.

For candidates who do not meet the fourth criterion’s requirements, depending on the specifics of the scientific field, the Council of the study program may establish additional criteria for enrollment. The previously completed studies’ adequacy is determined by the Council of the study program for doctoral studies.

At the end of the competition, a preliminary ranking list of admitted candidates for doctoral studies is published for each study program, i.e., sub-program separately. A special list is published for candidates who do not meet enrollment requirements in doctoral studies.

The ranking list is formed according to the points that are calculated based on the criteria determined by the Rulebook on the Conditions, criteria and rules for enrollment and study of the third cycle of studies – Doctoral studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje as well as with the Competition itself. The Council of the study program determines the preliminary ranking list of accepted candidates and the list of candidates who do not meet the requirements.

He deadlines for applying the candidates, for publishing the rankings, for deciding on complaints, and other elements related to the registration procedure, are determined in the Competition.

STRUCTURE OF THE STUDY PROGRAM

The third cycle of studies, the study program Organizational Sciences and Management is organized as a regular three-year study, which amounts 180 ECTS credits.

The study program contains a certain number of subject programs, with a certain number of credits defined in subject programs.

The study program consists of:

  1. Research training, which amounts to 30 ECTS credits;
  2. Education, which amounts to 30 ECTS credits;
  3. Application, preparation, and defense of the doctoral dissertation, which amounts to 120 ECTS credits.

The studies are organized in 3 years according to following regime:

  • First year (Training for research and education) – 60 ECTS with which the candidate acquires generic and specific knowledge needed to prepare a doctoral dissertation. The first year is organized within two semesters.
    • First semester – 30,5 ECTS credits (Table no 1), as follows:
      • Eight credits from 2 generic subjects (from Tables no. 2 and 2a),

22,5 credits from courses in the area and the narrower scope of research (from Table no. 3);

  • In the first semester, students take the two compulsory subjects from the list of generic subjects whose realization occurs at the School for Doctoral Studies;
  • Compulsory courses are (Table no. 2):
    • Scientific-research ethics with application and examples in organizational sciences and management – 4 credits;
    • Methodology of scientific research work with application and examples in organizational sciences – 4 credits.
  • Elective courses: During the first semester, the student takes three courses from the list of courses in the area and the narrower scope of research according to the recommendation of the mentor chosen by the candidate (Table no. 3). Each of the courses carries 7,5 ECTS credits.
  • Second semester – 29,5 ECTS credits:

In the second semester, the candidate selects one course from the list of proposed courses for acquiring generic knowledge adopted by the School for Doctoral Studies at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (Table no. 2a), which carries four credits.

In the second semester, the candidate chooses one subject from the area and the narrower scope of research according to the recommendation of the mentor selected by the candidate (Table no. 3).

Also, in the second semester, the candidate should win an additional 18 credits from participating in a doctoral seminar with a presentation (2 credits), an annual conference with a report presentation (2 credits), and independent research (14 credits).

The total workload of the student to obtain 7,5 ECTS – credits is 225 hours, of which:

  • Seventy hours are direct contact classes and exercises;
  • One hundred hours are project and independent assignments;
  • The remaining 55 hours are independent learning.
