Economics – First cycle study program 2022/23

The goal of the study program in ECONOMICS is to enable students to acquire
in-depth knowledge in the field of economics and with specific skills for applying this knowledge in practice.
To achieve these goals, the study program deals with the theoretical aspects of this area, also focusing on their practical application.
By acquiring the knowledge of this study program, the student is expected to demonstrate it
the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
Knowledge and understanding

Possesses knowledge and understanding:
• How consumers make decisions about what and how much to consume, and companies what and how much to produce;

  • How different market structures work;
  • Where do market failure situations occur and how are they regulated;
  • How are macroeconomic aggregates calculated;
  • What are the instruments of macroeconomic policies;
  • What are the factors of economic growth and development;
  • How the labor market works and what are the causes and consequences of unemployment;
  • What are the economic aspects of environmental problems;
  • which are the basic mathematical, statistical and econometric models that are used in the modern economy.

Application of knowledge and understanding
Can apply knowledge to identify:
• The conditions required for optimal functioning of companies in conditions of different market structures;

  • The elements for designing optimal models of state intervention to deal with the market
    failures;
  • The elements for designing appropriate macroeconomic policies (fiscal and monetary);
  • Designing labor market policies; the elements of appropriate strategies for accelerating the
    economic growth and development;
  • The connection between the economic system and environmental and climate degradation problems changes;
  • Application of mathematical, statistical and econometric methods for analysis of microeconomic and macroeconomic phenomena and processes.
    Assessment ability
    Has the ability to assess the benefits and costs (cost-benefit analysis) of:
  • The different strategies of the fiscal and monetary policy;
    • Different strategies for accelerated economic growth and development; • Different policies for improving the functioning of the labor market and reducing unemployment;
  • Different policies to strengthen market competition in the economy;
  • The various measures to improve the conditions for innovation and technological development, that is, to increase the productivity in the use of resources;
  • Different approaches in the reforms of the public sector in order to raise its efficiency and
    effectiveness;
  • Economic policies combined with environmental protection and the decarbonization process.

Communication skills:

  • Acquires skills for working within research and project teams;
  • Ability to present scientific-research and project results to the professional and wider community public;
  • Ability to expertly argue opinions and attitudes;
  • Understanding the communication aspects of the behaviorist approach to the analysis of behavior the economic subjects.


Learning skills
Has developed skills to follow and understand new contributions in:

  • Contemporary microeconomic theory and applied microeconomic analysis;
  • Modern macroeconomic theory and applied macroeconomic analysis;
  • Designing fiscal policy, monetary policy and economic growth strategies and development, innovation stimulation policies, environmental protection policies;
  • Applied economic analysis, that is, in quantitative methods and models of economic analysis.
    Qualification to be acquired: Graduated Economist of the Department of Economics.
