International Trade – Study program 2022/23

The graduate economist of the Department of INTERNATIONAL TRADE has in-depth theoretical knowledge in the field of international economics and international trade and possesses specific skills for their practical application. To achieve these goals, the study program deals with the theoretical aspects of this field, focusing on their practical application.

By acquiring the knowledge of this study program, the student is expected to demonstrate the following knowledge, abilities and skills:

Knowledge and understanding:

  • Ability to critically understand the rules of the international economy and the multilateral trade system and their functioning in crisis conditions;
  • Ability to analyze foreign trade policies applied worldwide;
  • Ability to understand the need for adequate formulation of instruments of the foreign exchange and foreign trade system;
  • Ability to understand the specifics of European legislation;
  • Possesses knowledge of running an independent business in the modern international environment.

Application of knowledge and understanding:

  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct an appropriate foreign trade policy;
  • Succeeds in harmonizing domestic rules and policies with the policies of the World Trade Organization and international financial institutions;
  • Possesses the ability to adequately interpret and apply European and national legislation in daily operations;
  • Ability to lead operations in transnational companies within global supply chains and global value chains,
  • Ability to successfully lead a company involved in international business practices.

Assessment Ability:

  • Demonstrates the ability to critically analyze international agreements and conventions for the regulation of international trade in goods and services;
  • Demonstrates the ability to critically review the challenges faced by the multilateral trading system;
  • Demonstrates ability to monitor changes in global value chains and global supply chains;
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize the challenges faced by companies in the EU Internal Market and other international markets;
  • Demonstrates the ability to select appropriate trade partners and conclude favorable trade agreements.

Communication skills:

  • Possesses the ability to communicate with all participants in global supply chains;
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize complex international trade operations;
  • Possesses the ability to understand the specific characteristics and needs of the participants in

international trade coming from different cultures;

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate with trading partners to successfully complete trade deals.

Study skills:

  • Has the ability to analyze, understand, memorize and research changes in the international economy and the conditions for conducting international business;
  • Shows interest in active participation in various additional forms and types of learning about the specifics of global value chains and global supply chains;
  • Demonstrates the ability for critical analysis and generating ideas aimed at solving problems in case of economic crises.
  • Shows interest in continuous education and professional development of specific competencies for conducting international business.

Qualification to be acquired: Bachelor in International Trade.
